Report: Women Climate Defenders
We are excited to share this portfolio featuring inspiring stories of women climate defenders from around the world. These women lead on climate solutions but often lack a voice in major climate discussions. Let's change that!
The Impact of Climate Change on Women
Climate change disproportionately affects women. Globally, women are often responsible for tasks like collecting water, farming, and managing households. Climate-related events, like floods and droughts, make these tasks much harder.
Lack of Representation
Despite their contributions, women are often underrepresented in decision-making. Women hold only a quarter of the seats in national parliaments. For example, when Azerbaijan announced its 28-member committee for COP29 in 2024, no women were initially included. This needs to change.
Working Together for Climate Justice
Voices for Just Climate Action, a network of six international organizations, works with local activists and communities to advocate for a fairer climate future. Together, we create stronger solutions.
Stories of Remarkable Women
This portfolio highlights several outstanding women. For example, Conceição in the Brazilian Amazon files legal actions against polluters. Halima in Tunisia helps women farmers affected by drought. Natasha in Zambia facilitates talks between women and policymakers. You'll also read about Zulma from Paraguay, Yuliana from Indonesia, and women from Bolivia.
Read their inspiring stories in this dossier. Together, we can amplify these voices and support their vital work for a more just and sustainable future.
